St Buryan & Lamorna Parish Council is the “grass root” tier of local government which is closest to the local people of the community to which it serves
The parish council consists of 12 elected or co-opted Councillors who hold post for four years and do not receive any payment for their service. The Councillors are supported by a salaried Parish Clerk. The Parish Council provides a Public Forum at every Parish Council meeting, held on the third Monday of each month. Our monthly meetings are split between the St Buryan Village Hall and the Lamorna Village Hall to provide the best opportunity for the public to attend.
The Parish Council raises a sum of money called a “precept” which is collected with the Cornwall Council tax each year. Other sources of income are grants from Cornwall Council and Central Government plus fund raising activities.
The Parish Council is responsible for:
- representing the electorate of the parish as a whole;
- providing local services such as the cutting of footpaths and bridleways and the maintenance of public toilets;
- maintaining accurate financial records and budget statements in accordance with statutory regulations that are to the satisfaction of external auditors;
- being open and transparent by reporting our activities and finance through our website and noticeboards.
The Parish Council is in support of the provision of affordable housing to meet the needs of local people, and the development of recreational areas.
The Parish Council is consulted on all planning applications in the parish. However, the final decision on all planning matters is made by Cornwall Council.
